1960 - Broad Lane Garage was born when Mr Scotney purchased Falcon Coachworks (where our current bodyshop is still situated today) to have a permanent premises to carry on with his bodywork repair business here in Hampton.
1961- Over the next year the opportunity arose to acquire the lease and equipment from Mr Berry for the remaining lock ups on the site.
With a loan from Barclays bank development work commenced to create Broad Lane Garage, with the installation of three Wayne petrol pumps supplying Cleveland Discol fuel, to be ‘The only Cleveland Service station in the District’. Serving fuel 7 days a week as well as carrying out bodywork repairs, Vehicle greasing and servicing. With Mr Scotney doing the bodywork and his wife Dawn carrying out the office work.
With the grand opening in September 1961.
1970’s - The business continued to grow carrying out full restorations, vehicle servicing and MOT’s becoming the one stop shop for all your motoring needs and a pillar of the local community. Mr Scotney’s son Mike also became a full time member of staff after leaving school having trained to be a motor mechanic.
1980’s - Mr Scotney’s daughter Jane joins the business assisting her mum with the day to day running of the office. The garage acquired its first recovery vehicle, a late 1970’s Chevrolet tow truck. This was the start of our vehicle recovery operation. There was also a new addition to the bodyshop, the latest floor extraction spray booth to aide the quality and drying times of our paintwork.
1990’s - Saw the expansion of the vehicle recovery, with the purchase of flat bed and spec lift recovery trucks and a Range Rover tow vehicle operating recovery for the AA, RAC and Britannia rescue to name a few!
1995 - Mr Scotney took a step back and Mike & Jane took over the running of the garage.
2000’s - In 2011 we celebrated 50 years, marking half a century for Broad Lane Garage, caring for the old and the new! “From Rolls Royce’s to Mini’s”.
2020 - After starting at the garage as a weekend job in 1974 it was time for Mike to retire. It is now owned and run by his nephew and Jane’s son Scott the third generation of the family.
